I've built entrepreneurial, mission-driven companies on a global scale for the better part of two decades, and I’ve advised over one hundred entrepreneurs. This substack is a space to share my thoughts, particularly on culture and growth in our technology-integrated experience. I am going to bring you my best advice on entrepreneurship, what megatrends you might capitalize on, and what methods you might use to help you build and scale your own mission-driven businesses and cultivate your ideas.

Why you? Why now? 

As of a few days ago, I have retired from my role as CEO and Chairman of Research Square Company, a company I founded that has helped researchers in over 120 countries write and publish a million research articles in scholarly journals. I co-founded AJE, home of the best academic language editors in the world as well as the best-in-class AI editing technology. I have also founded the largest interdisciplinary preprint in the world, Research Square Platform, which democratizes the latest advances in human knowledge for free through preprints. I have sold both of those companies to a fantastic partner, Springer Nature Group, who will grow these projects alongside their other businesses. I will be serving as Entrepreneur-in-Residence for Springer Nature through mid-2023. 

I have also coached entrepreneurs in the Duke University Student Founder’s Program, and I’ve helped to teach the Rice University eLab, a hands-on entrepreneurship class in the Jones School of Business, and informally coached and advised many other businesses through Vistage and Entrepreurs’ Organization.
